book-and-birdsWRiTEON is a Cambridge-based group that stages rehearsed readings of new drama, enabling writers to develop their work and offering actors and directors opportunities to bring new material to life on stage for the first time. We also run workshops on writing, acting, directing and performance improvisation and hold a regular feedback group for scripts in progress.

First Stage – Submissions open

First Stage is our annual series of staged rehearsed readings of new short pieces of drama for two to six actors.

Submission deadline: Sat 20th Sept. Details are in our submission guidelines.

Performances: Sundays 26 Oct, 9t & 23 Nov, 7 & 14 Dec in the ADC bar.

Fund raiser: Quiz

Expect a few surprise additions to a regular pub quiz – after all, we’re in the business of theatre! This is a fund-raising event for your favourite Cambridge playwriting forum, but the entry fee is only £12 and includes a ploughman’s lunch and glass of wine or soft drink. Bring your friends and enter a team (up to six). Fun guaranteed for winning and losing teams!

Starting From Scratch (workshop)

A collaborative playwriting project with guests and staff of Jimmy’s Night Shelter. A chance to work with homeless people and their supporters to develop plots and characters and create original drama from the issues that arise from homelessness. – Jimmy’s, East Road, Cambridge (on the side of the Baptist Church, next to Anglia Ruskin University.

Arctic Inspiration

WRiTEON has arranged a special tour of the Scott Polar Institute on Saturday September 27th. Writing inspired by the session will be performed at the Scott Polar Institute in March 2015, as part of a candle-lit evening of drama.  More details here.

WriteThat Play (workshop)

An innovative writing workshop for new and experienced playwrights, with exercises and activities to help you stimulate ideas and develop plots, characters and settings. You’ll get help to build your own dramaturgical skills and the option to work with experienced actors.

Dates: Saturdays 11th October, 1st, 15th & 29th November, 10.00am-4.00pm
Cost: £20 per session or £70 for all four if booked by 15 September.
