Pay what you want,
1 hour

As part of its Hotbed festival of new writing, Menagerie Theatre Company invited forty writers to write a complete play within a single page. That's a maximum of 40 lines performed by up to 10 actors. Eight to ten of these plays would be performed over four nights, and the audience invited to vote for their favourite. The first and second choices from each evening would then go through to a final night play-off on 12 July to decide the ultimate champion. The winning playwright gets £250 donated to a charity of their choice.

Menagerie invited WRiTEON members to submit up to five of the forty scripts. In the end 19 scripts were submitted by WRiTEON members and six were selected. Julia Bolden's Futility came second in her heat, and three other WRiTEON contributions finished third, with a chance to go through to the final as one of two wildcard entries chosen by Menagerie directors Patrick Morris and Paul Bourne. At this writing the final is tonight - watch this space to see whether a WRiTEON play takes the prize!

One Page Play Celebration
20 July 2008
7pm - 9pm with interval
B Bar, Market Passage, Cambridge
Pay what you want

With 19 One Page Play scripts by WRiTEON members in hand, we decided it would be a shame to waste them, and are now in rehearsal for a performance of all 20 (the 19 originally submitted plus one extra to make up the numbers). Each script lasts about five minutes, and this will be a high-energy, fast paced performance, with hilarity, pathos and intrigue all featuring on the menu. All are welcome to attend this event.

Naked Stage is WRiTEON's longest running, largest and best known series of staged readings. Its purpose is to provide a forum for new scriptwriting in the Cambridge region and beyond. Past years have seen more than 30 new plays performed as readings over the 10 week Naked Stage season.  We are looking for previously unperformed stage plays or sketches of up to one hour in length. There is an optional audience feedback session for the writer at the end of each evening's performance.

This year Naked Stage will take place at the B Bar, Market Passage, Cambridge, on Sunday evenings between 5 October and 14 December (no performance 19 October). The submission deadline of 8 September will be firm - please mark your diaries now!

Casting for Naked Stage
14 and 17 September
Portland Arms, Chesterton Road, Cambridge

Interested in taking part in Naked Stage as an actor or director? Then mark your calendars now for one of the three casting sessions we will be holding in September. We have many new actors and directors on the books so we will need everyone who would like to take part to attend at least one session. This is not an audition, though we will ask you to read from some scripts and you will have the option of performing a monologue of your own choosing. From this we can get an idea of the types of roles for which you will be suited.

The casting sessions will all be at the Portland Arms. You will only need to attend one session. The sessions available are:
Sunday,14th September, 3-5 pm OR 7-9 pm
Wednesday, 17th September, 7-9 pm.
