At this writing there are just a handful of tickets left for our last night of Naked Stage 2009. It's been a great season, and thanks are due to artistic director Pam Jenner and to all the marvellous actors and directors who have worked so hard to present the new writing as well as possible. Equally significant, though, has been the degree of involvement and participation of our audiences, many of whom have stayed after the performances to give their thoughtful feedback to the writers who submitted. Does it work? Only the writers can tell us that, and we'd be interested to hear any comments or news from writers whose works have been performed in either our Naked Stage or Mad Festival series. Contact news@writeon.org.uk with your comments, news or suggestions. And meanwhile, for our final programme, we've got a line-up of comedy from two writers presenting work for the first time at a WRiTEON reading:

WRiTEON
at Mill Road Winter Fair - Actors and Volunteers Needed
Saturday, 5 December, from 10
am
For the second year, WRiTEON will be running a "write a play on the day" stall as part of Mill Road Winter Fair. Last year's stall was very successful, with 18 plays performed on the day by our scratch team of actors. The event raises our profile in the community and is a lot of fun. We need actors willing to play any role on the spot (script in hand) as well as volunteers to talk to the public, take in and copy the scripts and organise the readings. Any time you can give will be welcome. Please write to organiser Anita Lehmann: nitalehmann@yahoo.com for more information or to volunteer.

creative technique with Splendid Productions, fresh from
critical success at the Edinburgh Fringe with their groundbreaking
devised production of Buchner's Woyzeck. Using their
highly-structured Brechtian approach, you will be part of the birth

Script Wanted for Charity Event
Deadline:
15 November
Unpaid
A short melodrama script is sought for a Charity Music Hall event to be performed in February 2010 in the Hampshire village of Medstead.
Length needs to be approximately 5-10 minutes. Maximum cast 6 (not more than 3 of each gender), ideally including a policeman (as they have a Victorian police costume). Mood music can be provided on piano but props and set requirements should be kept to a minimum. Preferably not too many lines to learn but lots of shock-horror mime and moustache twirling. No payment.
Please e-mail scripts to anthea@ukgateway.net
Writers,
Gilt & Grime
No
Deadline Provided
Gilt & Grime is looking for writers to develop bold, provocative work on the themes of authority and self-preservation as part of an ongoing project to develop theatre inspired by Thomas Hobbes’ Leviathan.
They are looking for three writers to take up the challenge of responding to Hobbes’ ideas in a way which is thought-provoking and dramatically engaging. Writers will develop 20-minute plays for a professionally-directed rehearsed reading in early 2010 at the Cobden Club. Initial development will be supported by workshops, led by the Literary Associate, to explore dramatic ideas and response to the text.
This is a unique opportunity for writers to devise within a supportive forum and to work directly with an experienced dramaturge during the development and the writing process.

Wanted - Jumped Up Theatre, Peterborough
Paid,
Part time
Rehearsals and Performances in Peterborough, 1-19
December
Jumped Up Theatre have commissioned respected playwright Nick Wood to write a 40 minute adaptation of the poem In The Workhouse by George R Sims, which will be performed for two nights in the Old Still in the Westgate Arcade in Peterborough. This atmospheric old coaching house, formerly a pub, is currently the temporary home for Peterborough’s leading visual arts group, View5.
The narrative will be held together by three main characters, with the action punctuated and moved around the venue with the support of a small set of carol singers.
MALE: WORKHOUSE OVERSEER - None of the jolliness of Mr Bumble - mean and pious, sucks up the nobility but doesn't like them much, thinks even less of the workhouse inmates.
MALE PAUPER - Grief stricken and bitter, originally from Devon - doesn't usually speak his mind but his sorrow drives him to telling his tale of woe to an uncomfortable audience.
MALE PAUPER'S WIFE - dying of starvation, also from Devon - tragic put not pitiful, and able to comment caustically on the action.
Director is Kate Hall, an education associate practitioner with the RSC, whose company, Jumped Up Theatre, has had success with other site-specific productions of Galileo and House (see www.jumpeduptheatre.com). This event is being supported by Eastern Angles Theatre Company.
The opportunity for this production has only recently come up so the rehearsal schedule can be worked around availability, to some degree. A fee of a minimum of £350, including expenses, is available, more funding is being sought. Between 1st - 19th December there will be approximately 10 x 3hr rehearsals (including evenings, in order to access the space) plus the tech/ dress sessions and performances.
CV’s and photos with playing ages, detailing availability from 1st-19th December and confirming willingness to come to Peterborough to work for this project, should be sent to: Jumped Up Theatre, 29 All Saints Road, Peterborough PE1 2QT or kate@jumpeduptheatre.com.
