Paul
Richards was born in Somerset in 1981, his parents relocating to
Cambridgeshire seven years later. He now lives in a tiny flat, in the
tiny village of Shepreth.
He is a drummer as well as a playwright, gigging all over the country, in almost every genre from heavy rock to jazz. Credits include BBC 6 Music, Channel 4, iTunes 'Single Of The Week', playing The Cavern Club (Liverpool) and headlining at The Troubadour (London). Unfortunately, he also has to fit in an office job to pay the rent.
Growing up on a diet of classic sitcoms such as Only Fools & Horses and Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em, Paul soon aspired to be a comedy writer. After years of rejection from television companies, he tried writing for the stage and was offered a bursary by Menagerie in Cambridge. The first piece he had performed was a play called 'Priorities', in 2005. He stumbled on the WRiTEON website whilst bored at work, popped down to say hello and has been hooked ever since. He has taken five plays to The Edinburgh Fringe, four to The Brighton Fringe, and had work performed in WriteBites @ RADA and The Contact Theatre, Manchester. He has signed independent publishing deals in England and Canada. He plans to take two productions to Edinburgh in 2012 and is seeking a publisher for his début novel, 'Big Hopes In Little Winhaven'.
Paul’s involvement with WRiTEON is mainly as a writer. He has produced a couple of pieces and acted in one but does not consider acting his forte. He enjoys WRiTEON a lot; has had countless plays performed by the team and always finds it a warm, supportive environment plus a great source of actors for his productions. In short, he reckons he’d be lost without it.
