In the run-up to MaD (Monologues and Duologues), WRiTEON’s chairperson and artistic director of several seasons of MaD and First Stage (formerly Naked Stage), Julia Bolden will again lead a workshop on directing script-in-hand performances of new writing. This has been run on three previous occasions and several participants went on to make a great job of directing staged readings for WRiTEON.
The workshop is open to writers and actors wanting to find out what directing involves (whether or not they intend to go on to direct) as well as those with directing experience who would like to focus more specifically on directing new writing.
Topics covered include:
- Imaginative use of limited space and basic furniture
- Getting the best out of the actors
- Working with the writer
- Taking responsibility for the whole picture
Julia has directed numerous staged readings for WRiTEON in MaD and Naked/First Stage, as well as in Table Talk, ANGLES and A Twist of Lemon.
