Are you interested in directing for theatre? Would you enjoy the challenge of working with actors at various levels of experience (from seasoned professionals to complete beginners) to bring a writer’s creation to life on stage for the first time?
WRiTEON stages new drama to enable the writers to see how well their words transfer from the page. Each of our seasons of new work might feature 20-30 scripts, so we need plenty of directors to achieve this. Most of our performances are script-in-hand and have only two or three rehearsals. This means you need to be able to think on your feet to get the best out of the actors and do justice to the writing.
Sometimes, directing for WRiTEON may lead to other opportunities. Some of our directors go on to team up with writers and actors who they meet through WRiTEON, to put on full productions of new work locally or further afield, e.g. at The Edinburgh Fringe.
WRiTEON stages two annual seasons of new work plus occasional ad hoc events. We also run workshops for would-be directors and those experienced in directing published plays who have not worked with new writing before. If you can’t see a date advertised, e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org to find out when the next directing workshop or opportunity for new directors will be.
