We run two seasons of rehearsed readings each year: MaD (Monologues and Duologues) and First Stage which features scripts for larger casts. We also run occasional one-off performances, typically focusing on a particular theme.
Each season features work by writers new to us, some of whom have just made their first attempt at writing a play, while others may have been writing for a while but have never had their work performed before. We are also always pleased to welcome back writers who have found the opportunity so useful that they submit to us again and again.
Our actors range from experienced professionals to those with previously undiscovered raw talent, all of whom enjoy the opportunity to be the first person to bring a newly created character and their story to life. Rehearsals usually take place on weekday evenings in the one or two weeks leading up to each show and are arranged to suit cast and director availability.
This is also a great opportunity for both new and experienced directors to enjoy the challenge of working with new writing, collaborating with the writer and getting the best out of actors at various levels of experience.
For the audience, it’s an opportunity to be in at the beginning and give helpful feedback on how well the writers have risen to the challenge of stirring and surprising us with their originality.
