Actors

Are you interested in acting? Do you fancy the challenge of being the first ever actor to play a brand new role? WRiTEON stages new drama to enable the writers to see their characters and plots brought to life on stage. To do this, we need a constant supply of actors of both genders and all ages, shapes, sizes and types. Most of our performances are script-in-hand (so no lines to learn) with two or three rehearsals.

WRiTEON provides valuable experience for local actors at all levels. Our current pool includes professionals with extensive stage and screen experience, as well as newcomers whose first and only acting experience has been with us.

Some of our workshops are geared to actors as well as writers. Some start by taking one of our improv courses and this builds their confidence to try scripted acting. Some who initially join us as actors have been inspired by the creativity around them to try their hand at scriptwriting, while others who initially join us as writers, reveal a talent for acting too.

Often our actors go on to team up with writers and directors who they meet through WRiTEON, to stage full productions of new work locally or further afield, e.g. at The Edinburgh Fringe.

We are also frequently asked to pass on information about other casting opportunities to our actors. In the past, this has included amateur and professional theatre productions, leading roles in student, amateur or corporate short films, extras for prestigious TV Dramas filmed on location locally, voice-over work, and music videos made by local bands.

WRiTEON runs regular casting sessions for our annual seasons of new work and ad hoc events. If you can’t see a date advertised, e-mail castings@writeon.org.uk to find out when the next one will be.
